Hi, I'm Mike Dunbar.  Steve Bivins and Ernie Bivens tagged me with the name Dr. Boom Boom, because I play the bass. It is an appropriate nickname that has stuck, because I've been making music since the Doctor slapped me (started out as a screaming vocalist).  I've been playing the bass and I've made it my focus instrument, since R.D. Mowery hung one on me at Springwater in Nashville TN; way back around 1980.  I also play guitar and I have many years of experience as a music teacher, session leader, and producer.

I've played on stage with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kathy Mattea, Jo Dee Messina, John Prine, Jethro Burns, Chad Brock, Otis Blackwell, Mandy Barnett, Darryl Syngletary, Tammy Cochran, Razzy Bailey, Odetta, Townes Van Zandt, Bob Gibson, Big Al and the Heavyweights, Narvel Felts, Steve Goodman, Patsy Montana, Charlie McCoy, Jim Ed Brown, Jack Greene, and Donna Fargo.

I've recorded with Delbert McClinton, Razzy Bailey, Hal Ketchum, Kathy Mattea, Townes Van Zandt, Dobie Grey, Albert Lee, Ray Flacke, Willie Rainsford, Richard Bennett, Joe Sun, Jethro Burns, Bob Frank, and members of the North Mississippi All Stars.

I've produced albums for Terri Lynn, Richard Dobson, Lesley Schatz, Funny Hill, Vince Farsetta, Rick Wilkins, Gordon Mahlon, Ernst Eggenberger, Richard Rankin, Redhead, and myself.

I've played on over a thousand demos, including one session of 34 songs in one day,  I've had songs recorded by Big Al and the Heavyweights, Susie Luchsinger, Michael Bohe, and CJ Chanier.

I was the founding bassist for Nashville Cowboy Church, the widest broadcast country/gospel radio program in the world.

I've been bandleader on many radio programs.  I played the part of Hank Jr's guitar player in the movie "Living Proof"  I was a comedy writer and regular character on the WSMV-TV Nashville variety show "the Chili Shack."

I composed, arranged, and scored the 1986 Holiday Inn owner's and employees show.  I've been a visiting professor of music at Portland State University and Oakton Community College.  I was faculty co-chairman, instructor, and choir director at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music.

I write a monthly column for Country Music Plus, Ireland's only country music magazine.

Blues singer Terri Lynn and I host a series of writer's nights in Nashville (visit our website) I own and operate Mike Dunbar Productions (visit my website)

I don't audition. I don't rehearse for free, (and neither should any musician who isn't a full partner in the band.) I don't travel unless the money or the music is incredible. I love to play music and I do.

I am available as a bass player, session leader, producer and you can contact me at: mikedunbar@studio-musicians.net
